Om forestillingen La Perle:

- RÛMÎ: SO WHAT TO DO WITH OUR WOUNDS?

- SAHMS: THE WOUND IS THE PLACE THROUGH WHICH THE LIGHT ENTERS YOU.

The phrase of the Persian mystical poet Djalâl Al-Dîn Rûmî is brief, but its meaning is deep and universal: pain transforms us. This poem reminds me of the nature of the oyster pearl which, over the years and with a lot of patience, can go from an intruder to such a sweet but resistant wonder. The universal concept of "suffering" is a cross-cutting subject worked on by philosophers and poets as well as by psychologists. I am inspired by Jalâl Al-Dîn Rûmi, a Persian poet, theologian and mystic of the thirteenth century, as well as the experience of the concentration camp, made the search for the meaning of life the heart of his therapeutic practice. For him, suffering as well as life's greatest difficulties allow us to reconnect with the strengths and values that lie deep within our being.

The show "La Perle", influenced as much by the culture and art of the Middle East as by the magic of puppetry, evokes a universal subject, "suffering". It is not a question of desiring suffering, but of welcoming it, of learning to live with it, and of letting ourselves be transformed by what it teaches us. The poetic narratives, music and images of this show intertwine and intersect to reveal, like a pearl, the transformation of pain into strength and courage.
