A Piece about Home Work Children and Love (Of Family and Deer) er en danseforestilling som kaster et vennlig og lett parodisk blikk på livet vi lever innenfor hjemmets vegger. En forestilling som åpent og nysgjerrig fantaserer om et liv utenfor Huset. Om en hemmelig dør inn til et annerledes sted. En vakker skog, kanskje. Befolket av noe helt ukjent. Av noe og noen vi aldri før har møtt?
Rajakangas og hennes dansere var på en residens på Figurteatret i mars 2014. residensoppholdet var ledd i samarbeidet med Dansarena Nord, og Wilderness programmet som er initiert av den internasjonale danseplattformen Kedja. Forestillingen hadde premiere på Figurteatret i Nordland 21. mars i år, og ble i august vist i Mariehamn, Åland under Kedjas Wilderness-festival. .
Koreografen Janina Rajakangas (FI) bor i London, England og Turku, Finland. Hun har gjort en rekke samarbeidsprosjekter med kunstnere fra hele Europa. Forestillingen A Piece about Home Work Children and Love (Of Family and Deer) er et resultat av et samarbeid med den engelske koreografen og danseren Neil Callaghan.

A Piece about Home Work Children and Love
“We will research and create a piece called A Piece about Home Work Children and Love. Home is a place of residence or refuge, a mental and emotional state of comfort. Work is the labour we do to get by. Children are juvenile humans emitting honesty and pure feelings, vulnerability and innocence. Love is an emotion that is forever intriguing and famishing, absurd and powerful. Everyone has a relation to home, work, children and love and how one feels in relation to them tells about them, their culture and the circumstances surrounding them.”

“I am a choreographer based in London and Turku. I was born in Finland and then studied dance at universities in The UK, The Netherlands and Finland. I work with movement because I feel strongly in its communicative power. I look at performance as an event charged with the presence of bodies, emotion and time. At present I am working in collaboration with Neil Callaghan to make A piece about Home Work Children and Love for March 2014. I also work as a performer, movement director and dramaturg.”
About keðja Wilderness
Wilderness are unique residency opportunities for contemporary dance artists groups. The residencies will take place in 10 communities on the edge of the Nordic-Baltic region offering artists a platform to explore, engage, create and present work in close proximity to wild nature and local residents.
The Wilderness activities take place between January 2013 and January 2015. Wilderness is one of the largest programmes in the Nordic-Baltic region which has contribution to regional development through artistic creation, as a main aim. Deadline for application was August 15th 2012.

Wilderness believes

- That ART is indispensable for the quality of life in all communities.
Wilderness offers to 10 dance artist groups
- Two 21-day residencies in 2 different communities in 2 of the Wilderness countries – in total 42 days.
- An opportunity to engage with and be inspired by various local resources, events, circumstances and last but not least – its people.
During the 1st residency artistic group will be asked to give the local community an insight in to their artistic development during the period.
At the end of the 2nd residency the artistic group is expected to give a presentation of their artistic work.
The participating groups have
- A Nordic/Baltic identity. The group / majority of artists in the group either lives and works in the Nordic-Baltic region or have a close professional relationship with it.
- A genuine interest to engage with the local community.
- An artistic idea with a clear focus on contemporary dance.
- A wish to engage in different circumstances than those provided in the metropolitan areas.
The 10 artistic groups have been selected by the Wilderness partners.
Partners
The Wilderness partners are from five Nordic and Baltic countries. They are committed to bringing contemporary dance to the “edge” and have a strong belief in the power of arts for regional development.
The Residencies
The residency period starts in January 2013 and ends in May 2014. The two 21 day residencies have been pre-matched/combined by the Wilderness partners. Once the residency period reaches its end, the Wilderness partners will select some of the artistic projects for presentation at keðja events and/or other possible presentation platforms.
